Attendance
At Park Street, we expect all children to attend every school day, as long as they are fit and healthy enough to do so. There is a proven connection between success at school and high attendance. We do all we can to encourage the children to attend, and put in place appropriate procedures if attendance or punctuality is poor.
We believe that the most important factor in promoting good attendance is the development of positive attitudes towards school. To this end, we strive to make our school a happy and rewarding experience for all children. We will reward those children whose attendance is very good. We will also make the best provision we can for those children who, for whatever reason, are prevented from coming to school.
The Education Act 1996 clearly states that the prime responsibility of parents/carers is to ensure that their children attend school regularly.
We ask parents to contact us by telephone, email (absence@parkstreet.herts.sch.uk) or in person on the first day of a child’s absence from school. This is very important as we will need to try and make contact with parents if their child is away from school and no reason has been given.
In addition, the school cannot grant holidays or leave in term time unless it is an exceptional circumstance. Therefore, family holidays should always be taken during school holidays. The Attendance Policy can be found within the key information section of this website which will provide you with more information about the process of applying for exceptional leave for children.
