Year 3 - Elm Class

Welcome to Year 3!

Highlight of the week 9/12/24: Year 3 has been filled with Christmas spirit this week. They were first entertained by a fantastic Christmas pantomime and then served a delicious Christmas dinner. We wish every week could be like this.

Highlight of the week 25/11/24: This week, Year 3's highlight was NO Pens Day. We had lots of fun participating in activities involving only speaking or using body language. A particular favourite was the Spot the Difference game, where they had to secretly describe their picture to their partner so the differences could be easily identified. We also joined Year 4 for a virtual workshop with author Serena Patel, where we learnt the best ways to create an enticing story.

Highlight of the week 11/11/24: As part of Anti-Bullying Week, Year 3 made their own pledges. We have all promised to stand up for people who are being bullied and to ensure that bullying does not happen in our school.

Highlight of the week 21/10/24: As part of Black History Month, we learnt about the famous British award-winning filmmaker Steve McQueen. He is known for saying that children will shape the city they live in, so we used our imagination to create what we think a city could look like in the future. Here are our finished products - we really enjoyed this activity and getting our creative juices flowing!

Highlight of the week 07/10/24: Year 3 had a memorable trip to St. Alban's Cathedral this week to participate in the Harvest Festival. We had the pleasure of learning some lovely songs and two very brave children took to the stage to recite a reading.

Highlight of the week 23/09/24: Year 3 had a very wet but amazing first Forest School session, discovering some of the activities Stone Age people would have experienced. We explored how to build shelters using a timber hitch knot, lit fires with fire steels and created some imaginative Stone Age art using charcoal.

Highlight of the week 09/09/24: Elm Class travelled back in time and had a fantastic day during the launch of our new history topic ‘Stone Age to Iron Age’. We were extremely busy creating cave art, soap carving to make our own spears, and we even went hunting and gathering for all things Stone Age themed.
