Year 1 - Willow Class
Welcome to Year 1!
Highlight of the week 9/12/24: In English Year 1 did an excellent job retelling the traditional tales of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Billy Goats Gruff and The Princess and the Pea. They had a story prop of themselves which they added to their traditional tales. Willows class also had a lovely time eating their Christmas lunch and enjoyed telling each other their Christmas jokes they received in their crackers.
Highlight of the week 25/11/24: In Year 1 on No Pens Day, we created a whole class story map of the Princess and the Pea by sequencing illustrations to match sentences. In Maths, we had to sort shapes using shape properties as our success criteria. We had to think very creatively not to use pens and it was a fun day.
Highlight of the week 11/11/24: In Year 1, to highlight awareness of anti-bullying, we wore odd socks to show that it is okay to be different and to stand up against bullying. In RHE we talked about how respect is the antidote to bullying. We created our own recipes for respect.
Highlight of the week 21/10/24: In Year 1, Willows class started a new topic: Poetry, and they did an amazing job acting out their nursery rhymes in groups. The nursery rhymes that were given in groups were: Hey Diddle Diddle, Little Bo Peep, Ring a Ring a Rosie and Humpty Dumpty.
Highlight of the week 07/10/24: In Year One, we are learning to identify the feelings of others by looking at their facial expressions and body language. We played a game of feeling charades in groups of 3. The first person used their face and body to show a feeling, the second person identified the feeling and the third person gave a reason for the feeling.
Highlight of the week 23/09/24: This week, Year 1 had so much fun learning lots of different languages, such as French, Hungarian, Romanian and Spanish. In French, they were learning their colours with Miss Blair and did amazingly!
Highlight of the week 09/09/24: We have had a great start to Year One! We have been learning about the Zones of Regulation. This is when we put all of our emotions into four different colours: blue, green, yellow and red. We are learning that all emotions are okay, but some are better for learning than others. Emotions that fall into the green zone are the best for classroom learning. We have agreed to keep Willow Class a green zone; calm, happy and safe.
